Jacques Chirac : A French court sentenced former French President Jacques Chirac to a two-year suspended jail term following his conviction on graft charges. He was held guilty for misappropriation of public funds and embezzlement. This is the first time a French Head of State has been convicted since the trial in 1945 of Marshal Philippe Petain who collaborated with the Nazis. He is the first former or serving president of modern France to be tried, although Nazi-era collaborationist leader Philippe Petain was convicted of treason and king Louis XVI was sent to the guillotine by revolutionaries in 1793.
Chirac who suffers from neurological problems and is in poor health was not present in the courtroom. served two consecutive terms as President from 1995 to 2007.


The Protester:  was named Time magazine’s 2011 Person of the Year on 14 December 2011. Time defines the Person of the Year as someone who, for better or for worse, influent hat individual action can bring collective, colossal change. 2011 witnessed unprecedented rise in both peaceful and sometimes violent unrest and dissent from the Arab Spring to the Occupy Wall Street movement. People across the globe in Tunisia, in Egypt, in Libya dissented and demanded even when they were answered with tear gas or a hail of bullets. The Mideast was the centerpiece of the year’s protests. US Special Operations Command and overall commander of the secret US mission into Pakistan in May 2011 that killed Osama bin Laden, came in at second place on the Time list. Chinese dissident artist Ai Weiwei came in at No 3. Rep. Paul Ryan, who put forth a plan to tackle America’s burgeoning national debt stoof fourth. Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, who married Prince William finshed fifth. In 2010, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg got wa named the Person of the Year
MARIA : Scientists claimed that now a simple test could diagnose breast cancer in women in eight seconds. They claim to have developed it from a technology that is used to detect land mines.
The new screening tool, called MARIA, is safer and more comfortable than traditional mammogram X-rays. It can be used on women of any age, unlike current technology.
Scientists already carried out three successful trials with 300 women at Frenchay and Southmead hospitals. They also claimed that results from the trials showed a diagnostic success rate of 80 per cent.
MARIA stands for Multistatic Array processing for Radio wave Image Acquisition, is made from 60 antennas, which create a complete scan of the breast in eight seconds.
मोशे कात्सव:  इजराइल के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति मोशे कात्सव को बलात्कार और यौन शोषण के जुर्म में सात वर्ष की सजा सुनाई गई. वर्ष 2010 में कैबिनेट मंत्री रहते हुए उन पर एक पूर्व कर्मचारी का बलात्कार और राष्ट्रपति पद पर रहते हुए दो महिलाओं का यौन शोषण करने के आरोप साबित हुए थे.

केप्लर-22 बी: अमरीकी अंतरिक्ष एजेंसी नासा ने सौरमंडल से बाहर केप्लर-22 बी (Kepler-22b) नामक ग्रह का पता लगाया. यह ग्रह पृथ्वी के सामान है. वहां तरल रूप में पानी होने की भी संभावना पाई गई. केप्लर-22 बी (Kepler-22b) पृथ्वी से आकार में दुगुना बड़ा और 600 प्रकाश वर्ष दूर है. नासा के अनुसार वहां पानी का होना जीवन होने का मूल संकेत है.



तोमस्क: रूस के तोमस्क शहर में पवित्र ग्रंथ भगवद्गीता पर दिसंबर महीने में पाबन्दी लगा दी गयी थी जिसे लेकर भारतीय संसद में काफी विरोध हुआ था. लोकसभा में विपक्ष की नेता सुषमा स्वराज ने भगवद्गीता को राष्ट्रीय ग्रंथ घोषित करने की मांग की
